Another fabulous resource on natural treatments and remedies for your pet is 'The Natural Way for Dogs and Cats' by Midi Fairgrieve and she quotes 'Nature has always held a cure for disease......both for ourselves and for our animals'.
It is always absolutely recommended to seek veterinary help in emergency situations. If your local vet is closed, always have a local 24 house veterinary hospital phone number in your phone. If an emergency occurs, you can eliminate the added stress of looking for a local vet hospital and worse still waiting for your local vet to open and of course it is then too late.
A great idea is to have natural remedies on hand for First-Aid use for minor everyday aid such as cuts, bruises or insect bites. We have first aid kits on hand in the home for the fur kid owners and family and we should also have sufficient items on hand for the fur babies. These can act as a good go between especially when essential vet assistance is required for effects from road traffic accidents, excessive bleeding and other serious medical escalating conditions of our pet.
A basic first-aid kit for cats and dogs can include the following (to name a few):-
- Bach Flower Rescue Remedy - for shock, panic, trauma and loss of consciousness.
- Lavender oil - reduces inflammation, helps soothes burns, treats wounds and abrasions and helps repair scar tissue.
- Tea Tree Oil or cream - is effective in killing bacteria and germs and has cleansing and antiseptic properties. Can be used on insect bites and burns.
- Arnica cream - used for shock or injury, helping to reduce swelling and heal bruised tissue (not to be used on broken skin)
- Aloe Vera gel or spray - is a great skin healer for cuts, wounds and burns
- Milk Thistle herb - is a good repairer of the liver especially after liver damage as a result of poisoning.
