Is Your Fur Baby Getting Enough Water to Avoid Being Dehydrated?
Published by Kim, Dawson & Amelia on
Cats generally have not historically been drawn to drinking water as they were used to getting enough fluids from the consumption of their whole prey. Increasing water intake for your domesticated moggie is best via the following options, especially during the heat of summer:-
- Simply by adding more water to their meals such as adding a tablespoon of water into their wet food mix. Tip: add a tablespoon of herbal tea such as Chamomile, Rosehip or Fenugreek to their water. After you make your own herbal tea you can share with kitty by adding to their water or food mix. Freeze cooled herbal tea into ice cube containers and place into your freezer and take out a cube as required and pop into their fresh water bowl or wet food bowl.
- Attracting your cat to more appealing, fresh and cool water. Clean bowls and clean water once or twice a day and making sure the water is in a cool location out of the sun, especially in the hotter months.
- Adding ice blocks safely away from the general walking area of family to their play area where they can flip, lick and play with the ice blocks to keep cool and hydrated.
- Cats like moving water such as a water fountain and water dripping from the tap. They also like the sound of slow dripping water during the day into a bath which will attract kitty to play and drink and then the excess water can be used in the garden - so no wastage.
