Cat Communications - Learning To Understand Kitty And They Understand You.
Published by Kim, Dawson & Amelia on
Cats and other animals normally communicate through what humans call ESP - 'extra sensory perception'.
We all communicate through 3 modes of communications:-
1) Visual (through pictures). Humans are very visual
2) Emotional (emotions and feelings)
3) Kinesthetic (sensory impressions). Cats are kinesthetic as they are very sensual animals and tend to be very focused on odours, flavours and textures. A cat's hearing and smell sense is literally hundreds of times more acute than ours. If our kitties have communication clarity with food they like, clean water, clean kitty litter, their scratch post, comfy napping areas and our attention for pats, cuddles and purrs - communications are happy and clear.
Cats are excellent teachers of touch letting you know where they like to be patted, massaged and at what firmness. Your cat will respond to you by arching their back against your hand with a purring encouragement.
Cats communicate with slow eye blinks which are usually when they are content, relaxed and feel very secure. This can be reciprocated by you with your cat with a mental message of 'I love you'.
Cats don't understand 'negatives'. They pick up on 'you' and 'harm' such as danger. Being safe and secure is most important for a cat.
If your cat scratches on your lounge - they don't understand the 'negative' reaction from you. The best way to communicate with them in this case is to show them how they can scratch on their scratch post as this is OK for them to do and the texture of the scratch post will encourage them to scratch there instead until their paws are content.
There are many techniques to be found in The Natural Cat book.
